The UITS Accessibility Initiative

The UITS Accessibility Initiative is designed to shift accessibility strategies at IU in order that accessible standards will be considered in all stages of development and procurement.

The initiative aims to empower UITS staff with the awareness, knowledge, and necessary processes to understand and address the access needs of individuals with disabilities.

To have all UITS provided information technology and services accessible or readily accommodated so individuals with disabilities can use them in a manner that is as equally integrated, as equally effective, and of substantially equivalent ease of use as those experienced by non-disabled individuals.

This is consistent with the standards for technical and functional performance criteria required by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and by the Americans with Disabilities Act; and to the extent practical, consistent with national and international accessibility standards. Compliance with the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0) Level AA for websites, electronic documents, and multi-media is the recommended technical standard.
