Presenters

Your role matters

Presenters are important in providing accessible content for all participants in their audience. By trying to design and deliver your content to be accessible, you are creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can benefit from and participate in your session.

Your impact

Knowing the impact of accessibility on your audience will help you to provide content that all participants can access and benefit from in your sessions. Presenting accessibly allows people access to the same information. Having clear visuals that are described and can be seen, providing captions for any videos used, and giving handouts in multiple formats can help everyone understand and learn in your session.

Accessibility is a shared responsibility

An accessible presentation is a joint effort between presenters and the members of our university community. By working together with your colleagues and with the help of offices and support available to you, presenters can ensure that everyone has an opportunity to benefit from your sessions.

Action plan

Consider following this action plan:

  1. Know your audience: Take the time to get to know your audience. Plan for the diverse needs of those in attendance.
  2. Use accessible formats: Make sure to design slides that have high contrast, are easy to read, and include alt text for images.
  3. Provide accommodation: Be flexible and ready to provide accommodations if requested, such as sign language interpreters, or extra time for questions.
  4. Gather feedback: After your presentation, ask for feedback on the accessibility of your session so you can improve next time.

By following these guidelines, you can create a positive and inclusive experience for everyone in your sessions.
